They areincome policiesandsupply side policies. 1.2.1Financial Policy/Monetary Policy The purpose of financial policy is to influence the supply of money in the economy. Changes in the money supply will influence important macroeconomic variables such as national output, labour fo rce, interest rate, inflation, share prices and foreign currency exchange. Financial policy is controlled by the central bank, which acts as a government agency such as Bank Negara in Malaysia. 1.2.2Fiscal Policy The tools used in fiscal policy are taxes and government expenditure. A good balance between government expenditure and government revenue is important. The government suffers a budget deficit if it spends more than the income tax collected. Meanwhile, the government would have a budget surplus if the revenue is more than its expenditure. 1.2.3Income Policy Prices and wages are controlled by government through this policy. The government will decide the maximum amount of allowable prices and wages increment. Government and firms usually negotiate on the price and wage-setting for the company. 1.2.4Supply-Side Policy This policy focuses on the aggregate supply. It also focuses on how the production could be increased. Tax system is the main instrument of th e supply side policy. Labour supply would be increased with a reduction on personal taxes. However there can still be unemployment although the economy is at a level where it has achieved full employment, meaning that those who are able and willing to have a job can get one. 1.3.2Price Stability Price stability means there are no changes in general price levels. This also means that the prices of some goods and services may increase and drop at the same time. There is no rapid inflation or deflation when the prices remain largely stable. 1.3.3Good Economic Growth One of the aims of macroecon omics is achieving good economic growth. This would mean there is an increase in the real per capita income from year to year. CHAPTER 2 ECONOMIC GROWTH AND LIVING STANDARTS IN MALAYSIA 2.1Economic growth Economy will go through decline and growth. Macroeconomics will look at the causes of these changes in the economy and the government policies that can be implemented to overcome an economic problem. Figure 2.1 Figure 2.1 shows both economic growth and decline. We can see that there has been a steady increase in the countryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s output whereas there was a decline in the economy from 2008 to 2009 due to the global economic crisis. These three situations slowed down the Malaysian economy, causing the growth rate to be in the negative during the year 2009. Growth of the Malaysian economy in 2010 beat official expectations as the economy expanded by 7.2% compared with the official projection of 7%. The economy contracted by 1.7% in 2009. Much of the growth for the year was provided by the two largest segments of the economy services and manufacturing which grew by 6.8% and 11.4% in 2010. The construction sector, which is universally acknowledged to have the deepest linkages within the economy, expanded by 5.2% last year compared with 5.8% in 2009. Spending by households and businesses also drove private consumption up steeply to report a growth rate of 5.3% compared with 1.2% before. Bank Negara states that in coming years, the global economic recovery is expected to remain uneven across the different regions. CHAPTER 3 CHANGES IN UNEMPLOYEMENT FROM 2005 TO 2010 Rate of unemployment means there is an available work force that wants to work but has no jobs. The rate of unemployment will increase when there is a decline in the economy, but unemployment also happens when the economic situation is good. Macroeconomics will examine the reasons for unemployment, types of unemployment and ways to overcome unemployment. This will eventually resulted in the loss of incomes, production and human capital of a nation. High level of unemployment usually occurs during the economy recession where labour supply exceeds demand from the employers. Long-term unemployment severely damages a personà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s career prospects by destroying human capital. The degree of unemployment in a nation indicates the economic health of the country. However, the growth of population grows faster than the employment opportunities genera ted in the market. Therefore, the problem of unemployment occurred. From figure 3.1, we can conclude that in Malaysia, the unemployment rate has been stable and low over the years. There are two main factors that contributed to the low unemployment rate in Malaysia which are large corporate buffer and the presence of foreign labours. Malaysia government should also be aware of the consequences of migration on their own labour market. The migration can helps to reduce unemployment but it can also twist the local labour supply. In Malaysia, there are a significant number of workers have migrated abroad especially high educated and skilled workers. Many of this population has migrated to other countries because there is a high demand and better job opportunities from abroad for particular skills or professions. This large population of highly skilled workers migration will discourage investment and slow down the economic growth of a country. Therefore, government should take this probl em into consideration and resolve with a thoughtful way to encourage the local labours to work and contribute to their own country. This helps to avoid job outsourcing to other countries as well. Dependency of foreign labour of Malaysia had helped the cases of unemployment during times of Asian Crisis. The number of foreign workers in Malaysia has arisen up to be 2,045,000 in 2007 and nowadays it reaches to be 2, 7 million foreign workers. It is considered that 1,000,000 of foreign workers in manufacturing sector. This is about two-thirds of the manufacturing sector 1.4 million work-forces in Malaysia. The high correlation and presence of foreign labours has often been related as the reason of Malaysiaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s low-wage architecture within last one decade. However, the existence of foreign labour in Malaysia has successfully kept up and managed the unemployment rate become stable-and starkly even lower within last one decade in the expected range of 3 % to 4 % annually. CHAPTER 4 INFLATION Inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. When the general price level rises, each unit of currency buys fewer goods and services. Inflation rate refers to a general rise in prices measured against a standard level of purchasing power. The most well-known measures of Inflation are the CPI which measures consumer prices, and the GDP deflator, which measures inflation in the whole of the domestic economy. Figure 4.1 Graph 4.1 shows the evolution of Inflation in Malaysia in the last 5 years. From this graph we observe that Inflation reached a six-year-high at the end of 2005. The fact that Core Inflation had increased moderately, but has remained relatively subdued points to recent adjustments in the administered prices of fuel and other consumption items as possible causes of this sudden rise. The recent acceleration in headline inflation has created a gap of more than 1 percent age point between the two variables since May 2005. This discrepancy provides a gauge of the cost-push shock stemming primarily from higher oil price. The inflation rate in Malaysia was last reported at 1.90 percent in July of 2010. It was then followed by a continuous increment of inflation rate in Malaysia from 1.3% to 3% and finally to 3.8% from year 2005 to year 2007. From 2005 until 2010, the average inflation rate in Malaysia was 2.77 percent reaching an historical high of 8.50 percent in July of 2008 and a record low of -2.40 percent in July of 2009. The inflation rates of Malaysia were that the most significant point of Malaysia is 2008-2009 years. From year 2008 to year 2009, the inflation rate of Malaysia increases from 2% to 5.4%. Among the benefits from economic growth is first increased consumption. Consumers can enjoy more goods and services. Consumption is directly related to utility. Quality of life could be improved with health cares through treating diseases and increasing life span. A greater diversity of skills and literacy could be achieved by the population with increased educational standards. Greater opportunity and freedom could be achieved by the people. An important determinant of welfare and happiness is education. Third benefit is reduced unemployment and poverty. Unemployment could be reduced through economic growth by creating jobs. This is important because major source of social problems such as crime and alienation are due to unemployment. Among the cons of the economic growth is it may lead to negative externality where it could cause external side effects such as increased pollution due to increase in output. Pollution would cause global warming which tends to be a real problem for society. The social and econo mic costs could potentially be greater than all the perceived benefits of recent economic growth. Another possible problem is inequality between the rich and poor. The rich will become richer meanwhile the poor will become poorer if the there is no proper control of economic growth in a country. Higher economic growth could cause an increase in relative poverty. Usually the educated and wealthy ones are the one who benefit from the economic growth. Here is where government should play their role in implementing tax policies where monies would be collected from the richer and distribute them to the poorer through social welfare organizations or schemes. However inequality could be reduced through economy growth. Less people will be involved in crimes if their income increases. Crime usually mot ivated by envy instead of poverty. On the other hand, crime rates increase because there are more things to steal through economic growth. Economic growth had caused medical improvements but at the same time there is also an unexpected rise in the number of diseases and illnesses related to increased prosperity. Little does Grendel know that this trip for prey shall not be as easy as the previous many. After devouring one man with ease, Grendel grasped Beowulf and found himself tobe at the mercy Beowulfs deadly grip. The battle through the beautiful hallof Herot proved to be successful when him who of all the men on earth was thestrongest(471-472) defeated the retched beast. Beowulf proved to all that hewould back down to no one. Any good battle can make a story exciting, and thatis exactly what the battle with Grendel does to this story. The translatordid an excellent job of capturing the parts of the strophe, which made it soexciting. The way it was described that Grendel snatched the first Geat drank the blood from his veins and bolted him down(421-425) shows how graphicthe language is in this poem making it much more exciting. I really becameinterested in the plot after this strophe because of the vivid and colorfulimagery that was used to describe the battle. Many have recently preferred Korea pop culture, which is fresh, trendy, and something that contains Asian sentiments. More and More people in Asia are selecting to listen to Korean pop songs, watch Korean movies, and travel to Korea to visit places shown in Korean dramas. The sudden rise of Korean pop culture in its popularity and its dissemination throughout Asia is innovative, unprecedented, and fascinating. This cultural flow in contemporary Asia is called the Korean Wave. Starting point of the Korean Wave in China The term Korean Wave refers to the phenomenon of Korean popular culture, disseminated primarily through the mass media and enjoying a broad popularity outside of Korea. It includes Korean dramas, movies, pop music, fashion, games, and any other cultural contents. Public media began recognizing Korean popular culture in mainland China in 1997, when the Korean television drama Star Is in My Heart was broadcast in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other Asian countries. China broadcasting company broadcasted the drama throughout Asia under its Chinese title, and the drama aroused broad popular appeal especially in mainland China. In 2003, the Korean drama, Winter Sonata, was first shown on Japanese television in twenty episodes. It captured 22% of the prime time viewing audience. In 2004 Winter Sonata had its second showing. Japanese positively embraced the Korean drama, especially the television drama Winter Sonata and its Korean associations. Some of the Japanese fans elevated Winter Sonata to cult status. Indeed, the male leading actor in Winter Sonata, Bae Yong Joon, was addressed as Yon Sama, an honorific usually assigned only to royalty in Japan. Demand by fans for Winter Sonata merchandise has created an industry with an annual turnover in Japan and Korea worth 2.3 billion US dollars.  [7]  The industry produces clothing, accessories, jewelers, stationery, magazines, books, DVDs and supports fan clubs. Significantly this interest extended beyond the characters of Winter Sonata toward a more general interest in Korea. The Korean Wave greatly affected to the tourism industry in Korea. In 2004, Japan was the source of nearly half of Koreas 5.6 million overseas visitors, and was its major source of tourists. In 2006 Korean Air announced special film in flights from Japan so that Japanese fans could have more information of the Winter Sonata location sites. In the same year, NHK television media and publishers announced an increase of its annual sales of its Korean language textbook to 20,000 copies.  [8]  As Japanese have enjoyed the Korean cultural media, their interest toward Korea in general also grew. Three main reasons why the Korean Wave became popular in Asia The good quality of cultural media comes to the foremost reason. Educational Psychology study Essay

The study was done by Penny Clunies-Ross, Emma Little and Mandy Kienhuis, (2008). It is titled ‘Self-reported and actual use of proactive and reactive classroom management strategies and their relationship with teacher stress and student behavior’. The study was done with primary school teachers in Australia and examined the teachers’ self-report on the behavior management strategies that they use in the classroom and how these affect their stress level and the students’ behavior. The literature reviewed for this study discussed research done in four areas which were used as the theoretical base for the study. One is the level of disruptive behavior in schools. The second is the teacher stress and its causes. Third is the relationship between the two. And fourth is the type of classroom strategies that teachers use which are categorized as proactive and reactive. The proactive strategies have been described as a more positive approach that is preventive. The reactive strategies are more negative and remedial. The proactive strategies have been found to be more effective. This study therefore aims to â€Å"investigate the relationship between primary school teachers’ self-reported and actual use of management strategies, and to identify how the use of proactive and reactive strategies is related to teacher stress and student behavior†. The hypothesis was that using reactive strategies would result in higher levels of teacher stress and lower on-task behavior of the students. Also that using proactive strategies would result in lower levels of teacher stress and higher on-task behavior of the students. The sample was obtained by contacting principals of the schools. First convenience sampling was used, and then random phone calls to ensure that five schools from each district in Melbourne were included in the study. Data was collected by questionnaires to all teachers and observations of those who volunteered to participate. The data was collected and analyzed by SPSS. In general the results showed that hypothesis one was supported while hypothesis two was not supported. The study was generally well done. The literature review was comprehensive and discussed a wide range of studies from as early as 1986 to 2003, showing the range of research on the topic over the period of time. It was also well organized into sections. The sampling technique was straightforward. Persisting until each district was represented by five schools was good. However the final sample was ninety seven participants from twenty one schools. This means an average of less than five teachers from each school. It may have been better to have surveyed fewer schools but more teachers from each school. The culture of the school often affects teacher stress so that the small number of teachers from a large number of schools may not be reflective of the levels and causes of stress in any one of the schools. The effect of the classroom management strategies used in one school may not completely relate to the teacher stress at that school. The results were analyzed as one sample, rather than analysis by school. Therefore there is no examination of whether the difference in school culture, (if in fact any differences exist) affected the study. However, the study did an analysis of the multivariate effects of gender, level of qualifications and years of teaching experience and found that they were not predictors of teacher stress. These are important variables to include as possible effectors of teacher stress. The study presented a lot of detail on the sample and the materials. However there should have been more detail on the procedure- how exactly were the observations set up and carried out. The report only says â€Å"After the 30-minute observation had been conducted in the teacher’s classroom, observation and questionnaire data were matched using the four-digit code†. The analysis of data was another section that was well presented. This section was again well organized into sub- sections which made reading and following the results much easier. All the data were represented by well-laid out and well- labeled tables which were easy to read. This structure was repeated even in the discussion so that the reader was able to follow the analysis of the results and the discussion for each research question or issue. That was in fact one of the key aspects that made this study encouraging to read- that the subsections were repeated in each part of the study- literature review, data analysis and discussion. An important aspect of this study was the use of both questionnaires (self-report) for teacher behavior and observations. It was significant to educational research on the whole to examine the relationship between the two, since generally self-reports alone cannot be relied upon for accurate measures of behavior. The significant positive correlation between the teachers’ reported use of strategies, both proactive and reactive, and what the researchers observed helps to make self-reports a more reliable tool in educational research. The study ends with two important sections- methodological limitations and suggestions for further research. Discussions in these two sections show the researchers’ awareness of the limitations of the study despite the fact that it is a good piece of research and it helps the reader to understand why certain things were not done in a particular way. One example is this study is the mention that the sampling though it seemed random in fact was not completely random as the teachers who volunteered for the study may be teachers who are not particularly stressed, or that the stressed teachers may not have been so willing to participate. Secondly the number of teachers volunteering to be observed was quite small. The study does not mention the actual number. A section that I would have liked to see included in this study was one on ethical considerations. In general the study was a useful one, well conducted and reported. It investigated the effect of proactive and reactive strategies as classroom management techniques on teachers’ stress levels. The study did in fact find that the use of proactive strategies had less effect on teachers’ stress. This would be the most important benefit to teachers to help them to keep the stress of teaching to a minimum. They could be encouraged by these results to focus on implementing activities in the classroom that would prevent classroom disruptions, rather than having to use their attention and energy intervening in classroom disruptions and losing teaching time. The study also looked at the effect of these strategies on students’ on-task behavior, and again found that the proactive strategies fostered more on-task behavior. Initially, I intended to look for the art buildings, but the best thing I discovered after my journey today happened to be the fact that the art buildings were being reconstructed. Just my luck. However, I did find the Knight Physics building which happens to be absolutely gorgeous. I also happened to stumble across the school’s arbortorium. I felt like I was walking through a jungle with my combat boots on and the leaves hovering above my head. I walked around in a circle and found my way to the school of law. The school of law is literally like its own kingdom within the campus. The students had their own law shirts, and the windows of the classroom even had curtains to block the sun out. I know curtains are a pretty simplistic observation, but I could not help but to find that fascinating! I have failed to sit in any classroom that had panels to block the sun. Only in the law school at the University of . As I walked away from the law school, I made my way towards the UC area and back around towards the Rat. Passing the vivacious students lounging with their friends, I hiked around the lake under the scorching sun wishing that I had a bottle of water, a hat, and maybe even some sun glasses. The heat was pretty unbearable. Passing between the Hecht and Stanford towers, I ventured towards the school of architecture. That is one white building. I expected it to be more lavish in its exterior design seeing that it is the school of architecture. I walked past the school of architecture and head back towards Mahoney-Pearson. I know that area pretty well. is my new home for now. As I left the Mahoney-Pearson area, I circled around towards the UC area again and crossed the winding paths towards the Whitten Learning Center. It was predicted by the researchers that the consumers will be waiting for the cheaper commodity which will make them defer there purchase for the moment and that would affect the producers and the investors. This would deepen the nature of recession. Decline in the industrial production and reduction in revenue: it was experience for the first time that the Europe27 had a negative industrial growth, country like Germany known for its technicality and capability faced a technical recession for the first time in history, with a negative growth. Same was a fate of all European countries; they also faced a negative growth for example France with -.5%, Italy with -.7% and Spain with -.6% (Euro monitor, 2009). Weak currency and decline in interest rate in Europe: in the recession it was recorded that the euro was as its lowest as compared to the US dollar and UK pound and it was still not taking the advantage of doing the international business in terms of export. To minimize the effect of recession and to bring in the stability the Europe central bank steadily started to cut down its interest rate throughout Europe to promote the investors to take risk and bring in some cash flow in market. Effect on the tourism industry: the European tourism industry was severely affected by the financial crisis. By a report from the commission of European tourism, which states that the Europe experienced a sharpest decline in comparison to other part of the world in terms of the tourism revenue. Similarly a report from the World Tourism Organization also confirmed that the Europe tasted a negative growth of -1.1% in the international tourism in the year 2008 and 2009 (Ivan Camilleri, 2010). Evaluating the strategy for recovery proposed by president Jose Manuel Barrosso The new strategy has been proposed, which is named as â€Å"Europe 2020† has been brought into the act as the Lisbon treaty which was been implemented from the past one decade has come to meet its deadline on 2010. The new strategy for 2020 Europe in some ways is similar to the Lisbon Treaty. As in both the treaties issues of growth and competition with the major countries were discussed. Similarly both the treaties formed the new policy structure and the guidelines for the implementation. But the new strategy for Europe 2020 has introduced some new initiatives, which in the past treaties have been introduced but never have been implemented.
